DEBATE: IS GORDON BROWN'S APPEARANCE AT THE IRAQ INQUIRY A WASTE OF TIME?

Prime Minister Gordon Brown told the Chilcot inquiry: “It was the right decision and it was for the right reasons.”

Then-Chancellor Gordon Brown, who approved military spending, has been accused of "ignoring the welfare" of soldiers by leaving them without proper equipment when they were sent into the conflict.

GORDON BROWN AT THE IRAQ INQUIRY: WHAT'S IT ALL ABOUT?

Mr Brown will give around four hours of evidence to the five-person panel at the Iraq inquiry, watched by the relatives of those killed in the conflict.

Brown has faced accusations that he failed to ensure troops had adequate equipment in Iraq and Afghanistan, and has been accused of insensitivity in some of his dealings with bereaved families.
